Many Christian schools use A Beka readers, especially in 1st through 8th grades. They usually buy new materials every year as well. At BiblioMania, we have roughly 30+ copies of each title in these grade ranges available in good to new condition, and can save the schools a great deal of money on their curriculum expenses. Check us out on Facebook at BiblioMania Homeschooling Materials, and drop a message with your needed titles. We will be happy to check our supply, and we ship anywhere in the contiguous United States. Thank you!
Book fair season is arriving again. There are 5 huge conferences coming up across the SE United States, OCHEC is hosting 2 big book fairs in Oklahoma in April, and there are the perennial favorites in Springfield MO, Arlington TX, and Wichita KS that many of our Tulsa moms enjoy attending. If you can start thinking ahead to next year NOW… get your lists made for what you want to use, you can save a lot of money by visiting consignment stores like Bibliomania, catching the online sales (Alpha Omega always has some good spring discounts), and then getting whatever else you need at the book fairs. If you have a “wish list”, feel free to email it to us at SStenberg@aol.com or through our Facebook page, “Bibliomania Homeschooling Materials”. Anything Linda and I can do to make your homeschool journey easier is our delight. Blessings from Tulsa!
I have been neglectful of our A2Z blog for too long… apologies! It has been an interesting year for us in Tulsa. We have hit the 2800 mark on the number of consignors who have brought in material, we were delighted to have a new book fair in Tulsa again last spring, and there will be a repeat, which is a great blessing to the many homeschool families in our area. We weathered the “Blizzard of 2011″ which virtually shut down the entire NE section of Oklahoma for 2 weeks, and are enjoying beautiful weather, which we all agree is well-deserved! Since I posted last, we have had numerous landmarks in our families. My son Phillip, who graduated from homeschool in May, 2009, finished his first free year of college, and decided that he was being called into military service. He was married in July, 2010, left for boot camp at Lackland AFB in Texas in December, and graduated right in the middle of the Blizzard! We are so proud of him and what he has accomplished so far, and are excited to see continued success as he and Linzy settle into their new home in Biloxi, MS. Our “baby” graduated in May, 2010, and entered her first year of college, so I am now officially “retired” from homeschooling…. except that I have 2 adorable grandsons who love books, love to learn, and get to play with Grandma 2 days a week. Before Five in a Row is becoming a very good friend! LOL Our 2-yr-old is almost writing his name by tracing over the dots, can count to 20, and has a vocabulary that is almost scary. Did you know that you MUST read “Carrot Seed” five times in one sitting or it doesn’t count? I didn’t either, but little John insists… he loves that and “Goodnight Moon”, “Ferdinand”, “Runaway Bunny” and the other FIAR readers. If you haven’t checked out this series yet for the little ones, it is worth it! His little brother is finally deciding to talk… he understands EVERYTHING, but purses his little lips together and just grins at you! Last week, he was playing with the Refrigerator Phonics in the kitchen, and I heard his say “A, B, C, D” on his own… thought it was big brother, but it was little man. Should be a wonderful summer of adventure this year with these two!
We have evaluated our supply of textbooks as we’ve completed annual inventory, and find that we have classroom quantities of Saxon Math, ABK reading and literature, many grades of ABK and BJ history and science, and Apologia Science. We have a 20-ft long shelf section that is nothing but Sonlight materials, from the syllabus cores to the science and featured literature. We have Usborned, Dorling Kindersley, Step Into Reading , and a huge section of literature that is used in Sonlight, Beautiful Feet, Greenleaf, Classical Conversations, and other literature-based studies. We have a great stock of Weaver, TRISMS, KONOS, and Tapestry of Grace right now, with many of the supplemental materials available.
Feel free to contact us through this blog with any questions, visit our website at www.bibliomaniatulsa.com , or our Facebook page BiblioMania Homeschooling Materials. I update the FB page several times a week, and can receive questions and requests there very easily. If you mark our FB page as a friend, you will receive these updates automatically.
We would love to hear from you with questions, information, or requests at any time. Blessings, and it’s good to be back! Sue at Bibliomania in Tulsa, OK
It is Christmastime at BiblioMania in Tulsa, OK. Miss Linda has assembled a lovely display of Advent, Hanukkah, and Christmas items in the literature room, and we had great shelving help over the weekend, so there are more items than ever to choose from throughout the store. All of our games and puzzles are discounted for the holiday, and we have plenty of stocking-stuffer items (Step Into Reading books, Klutz books, videos…) all through the store. The “fluffy shelves” with the horse and dog books, Mandies, Wally McDoogle, Magic Tree House, Nancy Drew, Matt Christopher, Cooper kids series and all are full, with extra boxes to browse. These are excellent break reading for our 3rd – 8th graders! December is also a time to review our first semester – what is working…. what just is not! If you are ready for a change in curriculum, just drop a note here, on our Facebook page, or at SStenberg@aol.com to inquire on availability of specific items. We have had many new consignors added to the family this year, and I’d like to thank them, and our established clients for the blessing of their participation, and their friendship over the years. We love you! Sue and Linda
The used book fairs are over, and the new arrivals from the consignors are coming in – 30+ boxes on Saturday! We have Tapestry of Grace, Heart of Wisdom Ancient History, TRISMS, Sonlight, KONOS, KONOS History of the World Vol 1 & 2, Worldviews of the Western World (with LOTS of the resources), and more.
There is also a wealth of Bob Jones teachers’ materials, and enough A Beka readers to stock a couple Christian School classrooms!
If you have specific requests, just ask… or call us at 918/438-9889 during store hours. We are open from 10-6 Tues-Fri and 10-3 Saturdays, closed Sunday and Monday.
As of June 1st, we are on summer hours at BiblioMania. We are now open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday – Friday, and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturdays. We are still closed on Sunday & Monday.
We have a Facebook page now too, and my webmaster has linked this blog and the FB page to the Bibliomania website, so hopefully all of the updates will be available on one site to everyone. If there are any glitches, let me know so I can call Connor and get it worked out.
New arrivals are exciting! We have our first consigned copy of Mystery of History Vol 1 on the shelf. We also received Heart of Wisdom, the HoW Ancient History unit study in a gorgeous binder, and Tapestry of Grace, year one, units 3 and 4, still in shrinkwrap. We have been rotating stock, and if anyone wants any A Beka readers, especially 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grade, for Heaven’s sake, don’t buy them new! We have classroom-sized stocks of almost every title, including the discontinued “Modern McGuffey” series (Open Windows, Open Roads, Open Doors, etc.) We normally take 25% off the retail on readers, but some of these have been in the store long enough that they are discounted another 25% (and sometimes 50%!) from that low price. Even if you aren’t using A Beka, these readers are excellent tools to confirm your child’s reading level, and to give them quality reading material over the summer as a supplement to the fun books they are getting at your local libary’s summer reading program.
Bob Jones has fantastic materials – their math and history are some of my favorite choices for our own homeschool. Their teachers’ editions, however are becoming very expensive. Call us at 918/438-9889 to see if we have the TE you need for next year. We are loaded with backstock on almost every subject and grade level! Again, some of these are double-discounted, and you can get some great bargains. A lady just came in today, and got her entire 8th grade BJUP curriculum for $300, with only 2 workbooks left – new, these materials would have been almost $500!
Let us help you stretch your homeschooling dollars, be better stewards, and fill out your wish lists!
Linda & I are on hand at Bibliomania at 10:00 every morning Tues – Saturday. We’d love to hear from you!
It is graduation time in Oklahoma, and you see evidence everywhere. The tri-fold boards are disappearing, Every Saturday in the months of May and most of June are taken up with one or more of the public or private schools holding ceremonies, from 900+ at Union to under 30 at some of the smaller schools. We have thousands of homeschooled students in the Tulsa area, and many, many kids graduating from homeschool with great plans and futures ahead of them. There are at least five homeschool groups holding graduation ceremonies this year, and many other students having their own private celebrations at home or at their local churches. Tomorrow, Saturday, May 9, is the big day for two of our homeschool organizations. Cornerstone Tutorial Center, a homeschool co-op that has operated for over 15 years is graduating their class of 20+ students, with a full cap and gown ceremony. Our two oldest daughters graduated with CTC in 2000 and 2002, and it was truly lovely. Tomorrow is also the second annual graduation for the NOAH Jaguars athletes. NOAH stands for Northeast Oklahoma Association of Homeschools, and the Jags are well-known throughout Oklahoma and the surrounding states for excellence in athletics in basketball, football, baseball, volleyball, and other sports as well. Our son Phillip is one of the Jaguars graduating tomorrow, after homeschooling since first grade. He has played basketball for 3 years, flag football for 2, and tackle football for 5 years, 3 of them as varsity. NOAH has been a great opportunity for Phil, and we are thrilled to see him and his 17 fellow Jags celebrate together tomorrow! Next year, our youngest will take this walk, and our homeschooling adventure will be done after 15 years of fun, frustration, hard work, and glorious surprises.
For those of you with high schoolers, enjoy these last years – they are a delight. Take time just to talk to your teens – they have some amazing insights to share. I look at our children, and am so grateful for the truly fascinating people they have grown into. Don’t forget to nurture their dreams, whether it be for college, a career, their own business, mission trips, home and family, or whatever the Lord brings across their hearts and paths. In our family, we have a soldier who wants to teach history in college, a business major who has spent 6 years in fashion merchandising, and a CNA who works with neuro-trauma patients in a local ICU and who plans to complete a 4-yr nursing degree, with possible physician’s assistant in the future. Our newest graduate is planning on an engineering degree, and the youngest is involved in computer graphic animation and design… all so different, yet homeschooling has allowed them to pursue their dreams and nurture their very individual gifts and talents.
So….. celebrate with us and the NOAH Jaguars in your prayers and thoughts, enjoy your students while you have them, and stay the course. It is truly worth the walk! Blessings from Tulsa, Sue
Hello, Oklahoma homeschoolers (and our neighbors)! The OCHEC Book Fair will be on May 1st & 2nd in Oklahoma City. David Quine of Cornerstone Curriculum and Steve Demme of Math U See will be the key speakers, and there are many other workshops planned. If you want to check out some of their curriculum before the fair without having to fight the crowds, come to BiblioMania in Tulsa. We have a lot of Quine’s Worldviews of the Western World curriculum on hand, including an entire box of resources he uses that just came in yesterday! We also have 3 copies of Music and Moments with the Masters, lots of his Making Math Meaningful, and the elementary science as well. If you have been considering Cornerstone Curriculum with the conceptual approach, this is an excellent time. Our material is priced 25% off the retail for curriculum, and half off for the supplemental items, so you can save a lot, and fill in gaps at the Cornerstone display at the fair.
We have a wide variety of the Math U See materials, and have demos on hand that we loan out so you can evaluate the program at your leisure.
If you are winding down on your materials for this school year and want to keep the kids going until the end of May, come in and check out the supplement wall. We have math, science, history and language arts materials that focus on specific skills that you may want to “beef up”, and have a good variety of short unit studies that can fill in a few weeks with something fun. The “One Week Off” series looks especially fun – we have “Cars” and “Botany” on hand right now in the Literature room.
If you are using a traditional curriculum like Bob Jones or A Beka, come in with your “kit list”, and check off your curriculum guides, teachers’ editions, test keys, textbooks, and even some consumables. You will be ready for the convention then, and all you have to order would be a few workbooks!
Some of the high-demand items that just walked in recently include a beautiful set of A Beka phonics and math visuals & flash cards! We also have a great supply of Weaver and KONOS, Sing Spell Read & Write, Hooked on Phonics & Math, and TRISMS.
Linda and I are processing the new arrivals as quickly as we can…. come in and see us, and be blessed!
Welcome to BiblioMania in Tulsa, Oklahoma. We are a homeschool bookstore specializing in gently used homeschool materials on consignment. We began in December 1992 as a Christian bookstore with a few homeschool books in the corner, and have expanded over the years to a 2-room facility fully devoted to homeschooling, with almost 2500 consignors over the years! We have thousands of items in stock at all times, and new material arrives almost every day.
My name is Sue Stenberg, and I run BiblioMania with the excellent help of my dear friend and long-time homeschooler, Linda Bashaw. Linda homeschooled her 3 children for 21 years, and I am finishing up our 14th year. I have graduated one son from public school in 1999, two daughters from homeschool in 2000 and 2002, and my “babies” are coming up fast. Phillip, age 19, graduates next month with over 30 hours of credit, and Patti, age 17 is a junior. Homeschooling has been an exciting journey, one we never expected to pursue, but are delighted that God led us to this lifestyle! I will miss so much of it when Patti graduates next year, but I’m sure there are other adventures in store, including expanding the ministry of the store.
Right now, book fair season is beginning all over the country, and people are getting their lists ready for next school year. Here are a few of the types of items we have at BiblioMania that can help stretch your curriculum dollars further, and enable you to get some of the items at book fair you have seen in the catalogs, but just can’t fit in and still get the necessities for your students. Here are some of the items that we have in stock right now - many of them discounted 25% and 50% from the original “used” prices.
A Beka readers and literature books, grades 1-12 – We have classroom or co-op group quantities of almost every title in the A Beka catalog! Many of these have come from Christian schools in the area which must use the “most recent edition” of the reader, even though the only change has been the cover, the number on the back, and the price! We are especially well-stocked on 1st – 3rd grade, and the 2-volume sets of World Literature for 10th grade.
A Beka Curriculum guides – all subjects, 1st – 6th grades. These provide the lesson plans for the entire year, and give forms for record keeping.
A Beka test and quiz keys – for EVERYTHING!!! Just ask, we probably have some on serious discount!
A Beka and Bob Jones Spanish 1 and 2 – all texts, teachers’ materials, and many of the audio pieces as well.
Bob Jones Teachers’ Editions – all subjects, almost all grades, again, just ask! Bob Jones has excellent materials (I’m particularly fond of their history, math, and hard-back orange high school science) Their teachers’ editions, however, are incredibly expensive to purchase new, and are really necessary for lesson plans and grading. Purchasing them used is a great way to free up a lot of money quickly on your wish list! An elementary grade reading TE is about $52 new, and the high school history TEs are in the $48 range. On just those two, you would pay $39 and $36 at Biblio, saving $25! We are so loaded with the elementary reading, elementary math, elementary history, high school geometry, hs world history, geography, and jr high world studies that the shelves are bulging, and we have more stock in the back room! Get your teachers’ materials from us, then go to your local hotel show or book fair, and order your new consumables!
Bob Jones readers and texbooks are also well-stocked. We have 1st – 6th grade readers in abundance, overstock on the elementary Heritage Studies 1-6, plenty of elementary science, and we are overflowing with 2nd edition Life Science, Earth Science, and Biology. These are the orange hardbacks that have recently been replaced by paperbacks with the lab manual included. If you aren’t doing the DVD or HomeSat program, and just need excellent material to use at home, the BJUP secondary science is hard to beat, and these editions are now reduced in price. We also have clean lab manuals and all teachers’ items for these subjects.
In other areas of the store, we have unit studies (Sonlight, TRISMS, NOAH plan, KONOS, Weaver, and Worldviews of the Western World), lit based curricula such as Beautiful Feet and Five in a Row, and history materials like Peter Marshall’s Light & Glory series, Joy Hakim’s History of US, and Greenleaf Press.
If you have had friends tell you, “If you’re going to homeschool, you’ve got to read _________”, we probably have it! If you’re looking for Ruth Beechick, Gregg Harris, E.D. Hirsch, Charlotte Mason, the Ultimate Guide to Homeschooling by Bell, or the Well-Trained Mind by Bauer and Wise, just let us know! The items we have are in excellent condition, and only half of the original retail!
In future blogs, we will let you know about specific areas where we are loaded with blessings just ready to come to your home… haven’t even gotten to the logic, phonics, Alpha Omega, art, music, lapbooking, Creation Science…. you get the picture! Visit our website at www.bibliomaniatulsa.com and drop us an email with your wish list, or respond here on the blog site. We can check our stash, conditions and prices, and let you know what is available. We ship anywhere in the mainland United States, and would love to help you with your curriculum needs!
Blessings on the way! Sue and Linda
