I’ve been coming across so many articles that explain to parents what they can do to help their child to read. I’m going to list them here because I believe that all of these can help your child in his reading adventure.
However, I do not believe that any of these “Help Tips” give parents the one BIG TIP that can ensure their child’s reading success. You’ll find that BIG TIP at the bottom of the page entitled:
My BIG Tip
——————————————
Parents can let their children know they enjoy reading themselves.
Parents can read to their children.
Parents can go to the library with their child and check out books together.
Parents can re-read their child’s favorite stories as many times as their child wants to hear them, and choose books and authors that their child enjoys.
Parents can run their finger under words from left to right as they read books to their child.
Parents can urge relatives and friends to give books at gift-giving time.
Parents can subscribe to children’s magazines.
Parents can choose a comfortable spot to read to their child.
Parents can ask their child questions about a story
Parents can ask their child if he agrees or disagrees with an author.
My BIG Tip
All of the above tips are great, but none of them can actually enable a child to read. I believe the most important tip a parent can follow is this:
Buy a good systematic 4WAY Phonics program.
Teach your own child to read.
