I lost my mother two years ago, so I understand the mixture of pride and grief. Moms cannot be replaced. They're special! They teach us so much not just with their words, but with their actions. I will be praying for you during this time of grief. May God comfort you as you mourn your mother's passing and also as you rejoice in your mother's "homecoming!" Carol Kay

I am also a homeschooler, and I've heard wonderful things about the educational experience at Colonial Williamsburg during homeschool week. My family has timeshare units available at Wyndham Kingsgate Resort (www.kingsgateresortwilliamsburg/com/index.htm) for $500 for that week. You may either rent from Saturday 2/27 to 3/6 or from Sunday 2/28 to 3/7/10. If interested, please contact Joe Weidler ASAP at 215-256-9658 and leave a message. Thank you!
Ann, A very nice analogy. As we say at Time4Learning.com:

Homeschool Curriculum - Many Choices...Many Challenges

One of the challenges of homeschool education is selecting curriculum that meets the needs of each child. Many families find that what fits one child, may not fit another, or that what worked well one semester, may feel stale and stop working the next. Or in some cases, what works for one child in one subject, does not work for the same child in another subject. Well, nobody said it was going to be easy.

What most families discover is that their family's educational needs cannot be met by a single curriculum and that blending several homeschool programs and approaches can increase effectiveness. This eclectic homeschool approach often allows the optimal education for children being homeschooled.

...And if you choose the wrong curriculum for your child, don't be afraid to set it aside and start over. The child will greatly benefit in the end. I've had to do that several times during my 10 years of homeschooling.

Most interesting, Phil. Are you saying you are a grown up homeschooler with no social skills? I'm sorry to hear that. But one exception does not make a rule.

Our family's experience was that we still had lots of relatives, neighbors and friends who would offer feedback from time to time. But each knew they'd have to live with us for years to come, so they were gentle with their suggestions. It was nothing like the petty pecking order of second graders.

Our son learned to deal with the unwritten social code within groups he or I had chosen to be with: Boy Scouts, Homeschool Support Group, neighborhood buddies, the Youth Advisory Commission, the rock climbing team, the swim team, and the like.

Many parents chose to homeschool because they find the school social code is exactly what they do NOT want their children to replicate!

Google "grown up homeschooler" and you'll find 137,000 links! If you haven't read these documents, or searched them out, it is your own fault.
