If you are asking this question then I highly recommend you check out this wonderful book by Megan Garcia – called “Mega Yoga”

This lovely lady gives great advice and encouragement for big and beautiful people to adapt their bodies in order to enjoy and benefit from yoga.

This is in response to a comment I had from:

How can large people do yoga to slim down when they are too large to buy the clothes to go to yoga? A conundrum……

Now I know there are other questions similar to this one:

How can big people do yoga? Aren’t you supposed to be slim and flexible?

It’s sad to think that many people out there are missing out on the wonderful benefits of yoga simply because they can’t find suitable clothing to wear for a class or they feel they are just too darn big to give it a go!

I was over weight before I discovered yoga! And couldn’t even touch my toes!

YOU DO NOT NEED SPECIAL CLOTHES TO DO YOGA – THEY ONLY NEED TO BE NONRESTRICTIVE – YOU COULD EVEN PRACTISE YOGA WEARING A TENT DRESS!

You do not have to be skinny or flexible either in order to benefit from yoga. Even if you start with just a little at a time, your metabolism will get a kick start and help your body to attain its natural balance with food – helping with weight loss.

Any amount of stretching will benefit your body, no matter what your age or fitness level.

It is important to consult with your doctor before you begin though as some postures are not recommended if you should suffer from high blood pressure or neck, knee or back problems.
