Creativity-kids that can’t be still

Filed under: creativity — homeschoolartists @ 11:28 am and

I was sitting in a philosophy class this past spring and the professor said he had another “TEDS Talk”.  These are short video clips we would often watch of a speaker that had something profound to share.  They were often though provoking and inspiring.

On this particular day before class, I was thinking about my kids.  We had always homeschooled but in Jan 2009 my husband and I put them into a private school for a look at the greener grass on the other side.  I worried mostly about my 2 boys that had a problem sitting still, the youngest one who answers to the name “Zippy”.

After watching the video, I was then inspired to bring my four kids back home.  Although we had a GREAT experience in our little school and the people that make the school were warm, loving and knowledgeable in what they are doing, we are very excited about be home again this fall.

The short sabbatical from homeschooling was very refreshing and made me appreciate more, all types of ways to school your children.  Schooling is a season and we have certainly been through many.

This TEDS Talk reminds me that traditional school is great for some but not for all.  It also reminded me that sometimes at home we have to put the books away and inspire movement.  Inspire art!

I hope you enjoy!
